How many times ‘til they find out? What human life’s about and how easily it can be taken all away. Enlisted men in olive drab doing duty to the flag. Is it necessary? Anyone can say. If I had any idea why these teenage kids went off to die. For democracy? It’s like they always said. And if our country picks a fight we have to fight to save the lives of the innocent even if we end up dead. Tell me what it’s like to die tonight and how it feels to lose your life. Tell me what it’s like to die tonight and how we’ll find the price of freedom. The military can’t be bored. They’ll never drop the sword. Recruits for all the branches they will always find. I knew a kid whose name was Tom, what he did was dumb. I know that courage put that bullet in his mind. Freedom Isn’t Free.

Hello it’s Tom and I’m the one who never came back home. And I’m the son of pain and retribution. So far away. Sent away from home. Far from Earth I stray, far from Earth I roam. And I do say I do miss the sunlight. We all know it’s true. I blame it all on you. Guess who it is. It’s Cpl. Tom and I’m the one who held the gun up against my forehead. My name is Cpl. Tom!
I never saw the light that passed before my eyes and the wonders of my last few years of high school. Now as I keep looking back at memories caught in the past I realize I really loved her so. Go! I never really knew her little boyfriend but I knew that he was toast. When I kicked his ass outside the football field he said “Tommy why’d you do it?” I replied, “I need her the most!”
They carried me off the plane in a coffin on the Fourth of July. I looked at all my friends and my family. Oh why? My Dad. My poor dad, bible in hand, looking at the sky. My Mom. My poor mom fell on her knees and began to cry, “He’s home, look he’s home, my boy’s home, he came home. Well, he promised me so long ago, and finally he’s home.”
Look at me mom. I’m home!
I don’t know what I did that for, but I aint a corporal no more. Amen. I’m simply an angel named Tom…
